Cancer in children: Why we push forward
Cancer has likely touched your life in some way. It seems to be an epidemic, leaving Americans looking for ways to be proactive in order to be protective. One of the founding principles of Bare Bones is to change the way people interact with their food. It’s why Katherine and I, and a whole team of people behind the scenes, are working tirelessly to create and breathe life into this idea of food as medicine. If we can get people to think about food as fuel – the very thing that gives us life and allows us to do all the amazing things in it, then we can get people thriving instead of just surviving. I can’t think of a better role model for this approach than The Maxlove Project.
The Maxlove Project is an innovative nonprofit organization that advocates for the integration of evidence-based quality of life care and integrative medicine into standard pediatric cancer care.
These guys are serious rock stars and role models. They have created an organization that works tirelessly to maximize quality of life and reduce serious health risks for all childhood cancer survivors, and they do it with what they call “fierce foods and whole-body wellness”.
By teaming up with a diverse group of doctors, nurses, dietitians, chefs, farmers, integrative medicine practitioners and artists, MaxLove Project equips families to thrive within the pediatric healthcare system of today—where the standard of care for most life-limiting illnesses does not include essential integrative therapies—as they work to change the system of tomorrow. MaxLove Project’s programs and resources support families in the key areas of survivorship health. Each program focuses on several “super actions” for lifelong healthy survivorship.
We absolutely love what Maxlove Project is doing to help children fighting cancer thrive in world designed only to survive. Their approach to food as fuel and medicine aligns so perfectly with ours, and they’re also based here in SoCal with us (rad!), so we couldn’t have discovered a better organization and cause to support for National Cancer Survivors Day this Sunday, June 4th!
One of Maxlove’s programs is a broth bank – where they take broth donations and then send it to children all over the country to help fuel their fight against cancer. Bare Bones contributes to their broth bank regularly, but we wanted to do something even more special for National Cancer Survivors Day. So, today through June 10th , we will match every purchase of our Tomato & Spice or Rosemary & Lemon broth with an equal donation to a child fighting cancer with the help of Maxlove!
